Strathmatter’s news of the day!

Today we had a lovely visit from Sue Gilmartin and her friend Jane.  Sue came from the UK to Strathalbyn for the TIGHR conference In 2012, and stayed to enthrall us with her creative ideas for crafty people.  She loved Australia so much that she has come back for a second visit.ImageImageImage

Today we showed her our baskets that we are making with naal binders (and a sliced up pillowcase), otherwise known as toothbrush rugmaking.  We have a lovely assortment of baskets to show for our efforts.  Trish brought her tomboy rugs that she made – one is knitted and the other one is crocheted.  They are colourful and fantastic!

i am looking forward to seeing Miriam and her group next weekend, where we will be making some more baskets.

Some of the ladies hard at work!

A couple of weeks ago (in February 2014) I went to meet a group of ladies who belong to the Moonta Community Craft Group.  We were there to make a proddy rug, so after some discussion and a lot of chat about colours and design, we started on the rugs.  They were such a happy bunch, and full of enthusiasm.

Lunch was a real treat, and consisted of a table filled with country-style goodies.

Some of the ladies began their prodding and were keen to continue after lunch, so it was decided that I should make a return visit to check on progress.  I am very happy to return as they were so welcoming, and Moonta is a really pretty town (and there is a wonderful coffee shop just across the road!)
